Go Nagai is a pioneering figure of manga history and one of the first creators to test boundaries in WSJ. His debut series Harenchi Gakuen (1968) was the first manga in WSJ to feature explicit content, causing public controversy but also establishing the magazine's willingness to push limits. Nagai later created Mazinger Z, which invented the giant robot (mecha) genre.
