What it is about
Gintama debuted in Weekly Shōnen Jump issue 1765 on December 8, 2003. Created by Hideaki Sorachi, the series is set in an alternate Edo-period Japan invaded by aliens called Amanto. It follows the eccentric samurai Gintoki Sakata and his odd-jobs business. Beloved for its blend of parody, comedy, and surprisingly deep dramatic arcs, Gintama is a fan favorite with 77 volumes. Its debut issue also carried Kochikame, One Piece and Naruto.
